As always with this series it was an enjoyable and heartfelt ride. This time you not only get the high seas but slavers and the whole kit and caboodle. It is hard to write a review without presenting spoilers so I will say it was such emotional book in which Jackie and her friends deal with many emotional trials and tribulations as they work together to survive this world. It was a great book as all the books in the series and we also learn a lot more about this era as she and her friends deal with the issues of the book especially concerning slavery if you read any books in this series read this book because not only is it a good start point for anyone who doesn't want to bother with books 1,2, and or 3 but it gives you the right amount of adventure and the issues of dealing with life and death and the lack of control over certain things. Enjoy the book it is very emotional bring tissues.

I am currently reading the 6th Book in the series 'Bonny Horseman'. To date my favorite is "In the Belly of the Bloodhound". Jacky is back in Boston trying to be a good girl and through no fault of hers, she and her classmates are captured by slave traders, to be sold to the Arabs for their unsoiled virtue. I love how through this horrific ordeal you see the strengths and bravery that each girl starts to show. As usual L.A. Meyer has written a fantastic book with no questions left unanswered. Most books leave you wondering and questioning peoples actions and motives, but as yet, I've never had to wonder why something did or did not occur, why some behaved the way they did or didn't. Everything is answered. Love that! I wouldn't recommend Meyer's books to pre-teens as there are some adult contents in his book, but would highly recommend for more mature young adults. I've been spreading the word to friends and family about the series. Especially girls/women. I would say that these books are in the same caliber of 'The Hungar Games". If you enjoyed that series, hopefully you'll enjoy this series.
This, the fourth "Bloody Jack" Adventure, is filled with action and derring-do and cliffhanging episodes just like the three earlier novels. Not only is she wanted for piracy by the British Admiralty and sentenced to be hanged when caught, Jacky now has to use her wits and seafaring experience to save not only herself but all of the young ladies of the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls of Boston (where she has been hiding out) from the clutches of the savage crew of a slaver called "The Bloodhound." The girls had been treacherously kidnapped from a small island near Boston while on a class outting and imprisoned in the ship's hold bound for North Africa where they are to be sold on the auction block as slaves. The girls suffer terribly in captivity and Jacky rallies them to her, though some, like her arch-nemesis Clarissa Worthington Howe, do so very reluctantly, and makes plans to escape their fate. Many obstacles get in the way and Jacky is often thwarted in her schemes by friend and foe alike. It's a rollicking good tale and a real page turner. Even if you have not read the previous books about Jacky this book can stand alone. Your interest in reading more of Jacky's adventures will definitely be piqued after reading In the Belly of the Bloodhound. Keep it up Mr. Meyer!
...and as I mentioned in my review of 'Bloody Jack,' Jacky Faber is by far the most endearing young heroine I've come across since Scout Finch in 'To Kill a Mockingbird.'

Anyway, after finishing that excellent first book in this series, I was hooked...Ordered the next four books that same day - 'Curse of the Blue Tattoo,' 'Under the Jolly Roger,' 'In the Belly of the Bloodhound,' and 'Mississippi Jack.'

'Bloodhound' arrived yesterday, which was awesome shipping, but...I tried to hold out, I really did, for 'Blue Tattoo' to arrive, as I wanted to read the books in order. So last night I pick up 'Bloodhound' - just for a few pages, I tell myself - and the next thing I know it's 1030 this morning and my 'few pages' had become 515.

It helped that I had read 's free preview of the second book, as many of the characters in 'Bloodhound' first appeared in 'Blue Tattoo'...Meyer does a fine job here of fleshing out his supporting cast (especially Clarissa), and even brings back some familiar names from the past. And Jacky? She has grown up some, without losing any of her charm and sass.

So now I shall watch my mailbox, and hope the right book arrives next.
The fourth book in the best young adult series for adults since Harry Potter finds our audacious, wily heroine trying to behave herself (and save herself from a certain hanging at the hands of British authorities) by returning to Miss Pimm's school for girls. Adventure, though, finds Jacky as she and her schoolmates--young ladies of elegance and class and wealth--are kidnapped aboard a slaver and destined for the slave markets of Northern Africa. Jacky must lead the girls and somehow find their escape from the cruel slavers, refusing to be objectified and victimized because of their gender and upbringing. Even more difficult, Jacky must work with her archenemy, the snobbish Clarissa. Jacky forever belongs on the sea, and her classy girly friends forced into her world makes certainly for an exciting, interesting and dynamic adventure. And not in the least because Clarissa, a slaver owner, is treated like those she oppresses, and--even more so--because the girls a forced to see another side of life, a horrible version of what awaits them due to their position in society as pretty, well-behaved dolls set up for marriage. Amazing, amusing, exciting tale may not be the strongest in the series, but it is still a fantastically strong and unabashed (though dramatic and adventurous) look at the historical period (with sly contemporary literary references), bawdy, violent, threatening, baudy, dangerous, realistic, and with incredible characters; from the beloved, admirable, clever, and wonderful heroes to the dastardly, horrific villains, and all those in-between. Jacky is the perfect heroine for all women, and one of the greatest characters of all literature. Grade A+
