I know that I won't do justice to this book with my review, but I hope this causes you to go out and get this book now...and carve out time where you can do nothing but immerse yourself in this story. Where HOPE prevails in The House On Foster Hill, GRACE wins in The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond. I felt like I was there investigating and searching for the truth right along with the people in Gossamer Grove. This story is rich in mystery and secrets and portrays what hiding the truth, especially from yourself, will do...not just to you, but to others for generations to come. And then, what God's grace does when we face our sins and deal with them instead of trying to cover them up. The characters, descriptions, and history in this book were wonderful! I found myself googling to find out more about what I was reading about...it was that real! And lastly, one of my favorite things is featured in this book...COFFEE!Tags : Reckoning at Gossamer Pond [Jaime Jo Wright] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. This was my second book by this author and another home run. The first couple pages jump right into "the who done it" and kept me up reading to figure the century murder mystery and how it ties in to the present day story being told with threats of more murder! Well worth the price and the time to read that I couldn't put it down!!
Another great book by Jaime Jo Wright! Mysterious events surrounding a church revival in the past affect a young woman in the present. Wright unfolds mystery with a superb layering of tension and conflict, while threading a message of inspiration throughout, making her my new go-to author.
The overall message of this riveting split-time story is that God's grace embraces the repentant individual with forgiveness and love. While each one of the two story lines is suspenseful and engaging, tender elements soften the eerie elements. Jaime Jo Wright has created a masterful work in The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond, and Erin Bennett's vocal performance of the novel is superb!
Oh my goodness, Jaime Jo Wright knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, and reading her books until you finish. The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond draws you into century old mysteries that has affected life in Gossamer Grove ever since, including a more recent cover up. I love how she weaves effortlessly between the dual time periods, keeping you in suspense until the very end. The secrets, deception, and ultimately the fact that grace is available to all of us imperfect people made for a suspenseful and satisfying read. Jaime Jo Wright is on my must-read list of authors!
This is another fine, spine tingling tail from Jaime Jo Wright. It’s not quite as creepy as The House on Foster Hill, but the story is just as unique. Fiery evangelists, strange deaths, deep secrets abound in this book which includes quotes from Poe, and deep historical connections in a town that seems to boast family perfection. Read this one, you’ll enjoy itThe Reckoning at Gossamer Pond
After reading this author’s first book in one sitting, I eagerly downloaded this one and jumped in. It was a good mystery that had me curious until the end and had a good ending! I also liked the parallel story lines from different time periods (like the Foster House novel had) and the relationships between the characters. I didn’t enjoy this novel as much as the first one though...it seemed to take the characters too long to get to certain points, and I’m sorry, but the repetitiveness of having a female character alone at night in a dramatic scene so many times wore on my nerves just a little. It was also harder to read this book because it was so much darker than the first one. I read other reviews that said this one was not as dark or as creepy as the first one, but for me this one was darker because of the ever swirling violence and deceit in the novel in both time periods that didn’t seem to be broken with much brightness or warmth. Still a great read, and still saturated with the Gospel and God’s grace—just a harder one to get through. I very much appreciated the book (and hints of a sort of Flannery O’Connor-esque gothic genre), however, and look forward to this author’s next release!
If historic mystery/suspense is your favorite genre, then this is a jewel of a book! This is not usually the type of book I read, so I found it a bit complex for my taste. However, it is extremely well-written, and the intrigue and double storyline definitely draws you in. It is set in the time of the tent revival era in the early 1900s, and features an underlying law vs. grace spiritual thread. No character--and there were many, given the time slip style in which it is presented--is underdeveloped or nebulous. The number of characters often had me going back and forth to keep them straight, but were so well defined that, as a rule, you loved to love or loved to hate them. Ms. Wright is a gifted writer and this is a worthy work, but I consider the heaviness of the storyline and the lightness of the resolution a bit unbalanced. By all means, give the book a chance--just be in an "up" frame of mind when you read it. Wish there were a 4.5 stars selection.
