This is a prequel and seems to sets the stage for the series. You get familiarized with the concepts, what is to Split, Read, and how the character uses their abilities within the frozen time. I started the second book, which is included at the end of this book, and although you can read it independent from this book, you can see how the prequel has set the stage for the reader. The concepts of mind-reading and time freezing, coupled with some action will appeal to a range of ages, including pre-teens and teens, although I cannot recommend it for those age groups. It is too bad as I could see this being a series those age groups would follow through the entire series. Although probably not rated MA, an R rating would be needed due to some sexual content that could have been offered differently and yet maintained the information needed for the story line. This may have left a bitter taste due to the fact I know some pre-teens and teens who would enjoy reading this series, genre, and about the concepts, but their parents would not be appreciative of my recommendation due to other content. The book is an easy read and overall the story line is interesting and contains interesting sci-fi concepts/abilities many would like to have themselves.**UPDATED**Since reading the prequel I have read the 1st and 2nd books and they are written better than this book. This book also does not feel like the same author wrote it as the other books. I would recommend the 1st and 2nd books for teens and up and still feel this book could have been made for that audience as well.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, although at the time it was also available free on Amazon.

The Time Stopper Mind Dimensions Book 0 Dima Zales Anna Zaires Books Reviews
Hang on -- this is fast paced, even for as short a story as this is. You'll fly through.
The main character draws you in -- even though she's not very likable... she's got some serious baggage and she's trying to carry it all on her own. Big job for a very young woman, but she's not shying away from her goal of tracking down her parents' murderers. As a result - she's immersed in a world of danger, and dives in ever deeper to find the truth - and revenge - she seeks.
But our heroine has an edge. She's a Reader, and she can Stop Time. Her power is limited, quite literally, in how long she can sustain these sessions. But she's leveraging them, along with help from her researcher-scientist brother, to get the information she needs to track down her parents' killers.
So - lots of violence, lots of swearing (hey, they're bad guys). Lots of quest for justice. All good story components. But what MAKES this story is the author's capacity for world making. Wow. I *got* the world of this story well before the end of the 60 pages. Some novels take 60 pages just to set up the first act. In this story, I found that few, and quite short, encounters not only with scenes but with characters gave huge insight into their motivations, their grit (and lack of), and where they fit in the scheme of the world.
I'm going to go one step further -- the edition I received has a teaser for the next book in the series. I only read a few pages of it before I was completely immersed in the entirely new character introduced, and fundamentally impressed with how quickly the author not only gives us a razor sharp image of his personality, but also his entirely different perception of the same gift as the heroine of the previous story... even though this new character perceives it as something entirely different.
I received this book at a discount in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

The story revolves around Mira, who sets out to find the men who killed her parents. Mira possesses powers that allow her to stop time and it comes in handy when she goes undercover in the casinos to learn more about the killers.
It took me a little while to get into the story and the real action doesn't get started until the middle of the book. I loved the fight scenes and Mira comes across as a strong woman, who's not afraid and can handle anything that comes her way.
I know this is a short story, but I felt like it was a bit too short. Just as you're getting into the story, it's over in a second. It would've been better if the author expanded the story with more detail.
At the end, the author gives a glimpse into the next volume of the Mind Dimensions series and it seems like it'd be a good book so I'll be checking it out.
The Time stoppers is, basically an introduction to Mira, one of the main characters in the Mind Dimension Series. This is so short, it's over practically before it starts. I don't see how it can even be called a novella - it's only about 30 pages or so.
If I had read only this piece first, in the Mind Dimension Series, I'd probably not continue on in the Series. However, I read The Thought Readers, Book 1 of the Series, so I am curious.
I really don't get where these reviewers are getting their information from - the ones who call it a "thrill ride" into mind reading, and such. "Fast paced," "action packed"... come on there isn't even enough of it to deserve moderate praise, much less 5 star "great from start to finish" review.
I wasn't too impressed with Book 1, The Thought Readers, but I won't present a review for it here.
Do I recommend this book? Not really, thou9gh it does give the reader a view of the dreadful death of Mira's parents. Again, this is merely a small character study of Mira.
